Volkswagen AG had released a sketch of their new line of the famous mid-size sedans that will be designed and engineered at Volkswagen’s car manufacturing unit that is currently being constructed at Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Volkswagen maintains the anonymity of the upcoming sedan model. But as a teaser, the sketch revealed that it will be slightly bigger than the Passat, a Volkswagen family car that was built through the six design generations since 1973. It had been titled variously as Quantum, Santana, Magotan, Corsar, Dasher and Carat. The most recent version of the mentioned Volkswagen is the Passat CC which is a four-door coupe of the Passat.

Volkswagen is planning to manufacture 150,000 car models yearly when the Chattanooga factory unit begins its operation in early 2011. Most of the products will be sold in the American and Canadian market.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars, also called as VW, is based in Wolfsburg, Germany. They are the prime as well as the most expanded brand by volume of sales within the Volkswagen Group.

Recent Volkswagen models include the 2009 Volkswagen CC which is a four-door and four-seater sedan, Volkswagen Eos, a two-door, 4 passenger convertible, which is available in two trims, Volkswagen GLI a five passenger family sedan also available in two trims, the 2009 Volkswagen GTI which is a five-passenger sports coupe, or sports sedan, that is available in four trims and the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan which is available in 10 trims, a 5-passenger family sedan.

Volkswagen joins other car manufacturers in Europe in growing their range of natural gas and autogas powered vehicles. The car manufacturer introduces the Passat TSI EcoFuel and the Golf BiFuel.

The Passat TSI Ecofuel that first took center stage in the 2008 Geneva Car Show is powered by a 148 horsepower engine that runs on gasoline or natural gas. The car is designed to be monovalent and the car manufacturer does not have any plans to include an option of manual switchover from natural gas to gasoline. The gasoline tank is just there to serve as a fuel reserve.

The fuel consumption for the Passat TSI Ecofuel is an impressive 100 kilometers for every 4.38 kilograms of autogas. Carbon dioxide emissions are measured at 119 g/km making the car Euro-5 compliant.

If the Passat will use up the 22 kg of autogas stored in its tanks and the 31 L of gasoline, the vehicle can run for almost 900 km or 559 miles. The natural gas is enough for traveling a distance of 500 km.

The Golf BiFuel has a 97 horsepower power plant that can run in either gasoline or autogas. The car has a factory-built autogas system. The vehicle was crush tested thinking of the safety of the car in combination with its fuel tanks. The Golf BiFuel is also specifically designed to run on autogas and is far more durable than converted gas engines.

Pure autogas mode of the Golf BiFuel can bring someone to a destination of 420 kilometers or 261 miles. Combined with the 55 L gas tank, the car can go as far as 1100 kilometers or 684 miles.
