German carmaker Volkswagen recently unveiled the 2011 Polo Sedan in Moscow billed as the first VW ever to be specifically designed for the market of Russia. Although Russia gets the first taste of the first trunked VW Polo, it will not be very exclusive for long since it is expected to hit the North American shore by next year to help the carmaker stay on target for 800,000 sold units annually by 2018.

Russians like their American counterparts have preferred the notchbacks instead of the hatchbacks despite the obvious functional advantage.

VW fits the Russian version of the Polo sedan with a 1.6L 103 horsepower engine that is coupled with either a 6-speed automatic gearbox or 5-speed manual transmission.

The new Volkswagen Polo will be offered in the US either as the same variant or with the 1.2L TSI four-cylinder turbocharged powerplant.

The Russian version of the VW Polo was tested over a long-period of time to make sure that it will be able to satisfy owners who will have to deal with the different street conditions and climate of Russia. Aside from the standard safety elements, the car’s body is also made from non-corrosive galvanized metal and a suspensions system prepped up for bad roads.

VW already did accept advanced sales prior to the launch but the VW sedan was officially uncovered before an audience of 200 high profile guests in Moscow.

The new vehicle adds to the bestsellers of VW in Russia like the Jetta and the Passat.

The sticker price on the polo starts at a little more than 10,000 Euros.

Most of the people are going small. They’re resorting to smaller cars since such units are more fuel-efficient. This trend is the reason why Volkswagen is planning to sell Polo small cars in the United States of America.

The oil prices will definitely rise again. If this continues, more and more people will prefer small cars to spend lesser costs on fuel. Although, VW has never tried the competition in the subcompact part of US, it is worth a try since they also offer the same feature: fuel efficiency.

VW is well aware of the fact that their cars are influenced by the European heritage. But they’re not sitting down on this matter as they’re on their way to upgrading their models to better suit the new market in the US.

There’s no definite date yet as to the launching of the unit in US. They’re still looking at testing the American market by getting their reactions during the auto shows that will take place early this year. It’s better to test the waters even before dipping in.

This will be a good marketing move if ever. It will not only double the sales they have in US. It might enable them to triple their sales in the said country. Their goal is to basically introduce the right products to the market that is in the middle of a recession.

It’s good that a lot of companies, like VW, are considering the state of the buyers. Well, they better do or else they too will go down like the macro picture we’re seeing now.
